Throughout the years, I have always been fascinated with drawing.  To be able to create images with a simple graphite pencil gives me such pleasure.  As an Art Educator, I told my students that every piece of artwork they produced will always begin with a pencil sketch.  From that point, the creative process begins. 

 

As I have grown professionally, the pencil became my “go to” medium.  I found that I was able to create all sorts of images.  Learning different techniques, using different pencils, I was able to enhance my style and create amazing images.  I was able to “paint with graphite”!  Any subject, from drawing facial details in a portrait, the rough texture of tree bark, or reflections on water, became possible.  Observing the world around me, I am able to capture the illusion of three-dimensional objects, enhance light from dark, display rough or smooth. 

 

Each drawing I create captures the reality of the subject.  It is a constant exploration of creativity.  I want each viewer to be able to see each stroke of the pencil,  smudge and tone enhancement,  to enjoy the representation of the image and to feel the picture.  It allows the realness and fascination of using a simple graphite pencil and eraser.
