Barbara Haynes

"(I) like to work abstractly resulting in endless possibilities to create unique compositions that communicate ideas outside the literal."

Barbara Haynes grew up on the high plains of western Kansas surrounded by prairie landscapes and colorful sunsets. With nature as inspiration, she works in acrylics and mixed media. She likes to work abstractly resulting in endless possibilities to create unique compositions that communicate ideas outside the literal. Abstract art allows the artist to be highly expressive and allows the viewer broad interpretation.

Her process starts by layering paint of various viscosities to build depth and history within the work. She loves to utilize various mark-making tools to add implied or actual texture. Original collage papers or fabric are used to build even more layers. Each layer is produced using an artist's dance of push-and-pull responses until the work has a story to tell.
